2016 Churchill Gricha

From Churchill. Deep violet colour, opaque centre. An intriguing nose of raspberry and the distinctive clean, pure spirit that Churchill and a few other use which seems to take longer to integrate than some spirits. Restrained raspberry fruit on entry with big tannins gripping the sides of the mouth...

Bottled under the Presidential label. Deep red in colour, opaque. Nosing of powerful blackcurrant fruit and rock rose perfume, big and pronounced. Lots of deep and rich fruit on the palate, sweet yet with enormous levels of acidity. Lots of tannins show on the mid- and late palate and the acidity ri...

Deep crimson colour. Ripe fruit on the nose. Lovely fruit, balanced and fresh with a massive tannin load; gripping and very firm, but with the fruit to last and linger. This will turn into an amazing Port in 50 year time. The aftertaste is incredibly fragrant, full of perfumed fruit. A massive finis...

Dark crimson colour, opaque. Ripe blueberry on the nose, intense and concentrated. Smooth and sweet blueberry fruit on impact, with the mid-palate showing powerful but well-rounded tannins and a well judged balancing acidity. Such rich fruit on the palate, sweet and powerful. The huge tannins grip v...

Re: Is anyone interested in....

You probably wouldn't get much for it if you sold it. As JDAW says, it's not a top tier Vintage Port. But I've often found that mature Vintage Port (which this is) is so different from the experience that most people have of Port. If you haven't tried a 45 year old Port before, please do seriously c...

From Barao de Vilar. Intensely red, so much so that a swirl stains the glass! An attractive but gentle nose of sweet blackcurrants with a pleasant floral undertone. Smooth in texture with nicely balanced fruit, dense and concentrated with distinct tannins hiding under the fruit; good cleansing acidi...

2017 Pocas

An intense purple colour. Fresh nose of very ripe strawberries, showing some clean alcohol that hasn't fully integrated yet. Soft and smooth fruit with a huge pack of firm tannins; the fruit remiains smooth and sweet but this has a huge tannic load; a really big and old fashoned style of Port but on...

Re: Wed 1st May 2019, Broadbent Port, at the B&F

I should be able to print the placemats, but will also not be super early (I don't think, at the moment).

Please could I have no starter, sirloin steak (medium rare) with a bearnaise sauce.

What's a gratin potato and can I have chips instead?

You are quite right, the Sandeman masterclass started at 2000 and got younger. I have some 2011 Sandeman LBV but nothing else.

Deep red in colour, not mature but not very young. Smooth, sweet blackcurrants on the nose, gentle and not distinct. Smooth with a nice texture on entry; plenty of mature fruit balanced by firm tannins and soft acidity; nicely finessed and nicely balanced. Fruit dominates the aftertaste and then the...

NV Croft 430th Anniversary Blend

A lovely rich ruby red. Nosing of attractive bramble fruit with a bit of green leaf giving a twist to the sweet fruit. Nicely balanced on the palate with fresh but ripe fruit gently matched against soft tannins. A gentle perfume on the mid-palate emphasises the ripeness of the fruit, but with a fres...

BFT 2019 Tasting Notes

Purely for convenience, as people post tasting notes of the Ports and other fortified wines they tried at the BFT, I will try to keep a list of them here. I tasted the ranges from Villa Oeiras (Carcavelos) and the two producers from Pico (Picowines and Czar Wines) - not a bad wine between them! I sh...

Modest nose that is quite limited, a touch of apricot. A lovely body with a slightly thick texture. Sweet and round, just starting to get a little cloying before the acidity turns up late to give a modest and balanced palate. Gentle aftertaste and finish. 86/100. 16-Apr-19. Opened 1 hour.

NV Kopke Very Old Dry White

A limited edition of 350 bottles made from wines aged for at least 50 years. Golden green in colour; an oddly petrol nose — quite similar to the sort of nose you might expect on a mature Riesling. Smooth entry with an elegant texture. Dry on the palate with a slight green bitterness, the sort you fi...

A darker yellow than the previous two White Ports shown alongside this one. Little on the nose but a very pleasant sweetness on the palate, with good tropical fruit; a palate that shows some nice layers of development. Nicely balanced aftertaste, sweet but with a lovely finish. 86/100. 16-Apr-19. Op...

Deep orange in colour. Over-ripe oranges on the nose, rich and concentrated. Lovely sweet entry, fruity but well balanced. Delicious and luscious. Slightly short aftertaste which fades quickly but comes back on the finish. Very enjoyable wine. 89/100. 16-Apr-19. Opened 1 hour.

Dry on the nose with a little green leaf showing. Sweeter on the palate that the nose indicated, drier than the 2008 with plenty of fruit and good acidic focus; plenty of complexity. Vibrant aftertaste, complex with honey and dried sage; very long. 91/100. 16-Apr-19. Opened 1 hour.

If there's any interest in doing a double vertical, Luís Sottomayor gave me a set of bottles from the LBV masterclass he delivered at the BFT yesterday with the instruction to share them with the folks on The Port Forum.
