Re: 2017 Churchill

Medium red in colour with baked red fruit on the nose. Neutral on the palate at first, this develops gentle fruit and soft tannins. The fruit is juicy and fresh and delivers a lovely palate, elegant and refined. Soft and juicy on the finish with plenty of fruit. This is an elegant and fresh Vintage ...

Re: 2017 La Rosa

Mid red colour with a pronounced nose offering lots of cranberry and slightly unripe redcurrant. A little neutral on entry, this Port really gets into gear on the mid-palate where the elegant and lively fruit is backed by modest tannins and fabulous acidity. This is a lovely Port, fragrant and elega...

Re: 2017 Quevedo

Deep red, limited nose of red liquorice. Concentrated fruit on the palate, with ripe black cherries and tannins which grip firmly. The tannins are huge on the mid-palate. Air works a wonderful fragrance out of the fruit but highlights the massive grip in this wine. The acidity shows up on the aftert...

Another deep crimson coloured wine. Fragrant on the nose with a perfume of green flowers rather than fruit. Soft fruit on the palate and a generous dose of tannins grow to give a wonderful melange of fruit on the mid-palate. The lingering finish is of the apricot fruit and is fabulous. This Port has...

Deep crimson in colour. A nose which was gently perfumed and quite delicious. A lovely texture on the palate, which is well constructed so as to give an excellent mouthfeel. Powerful tannins, huge acidity and plentiful ripe fruit combine to give a big Port with a wonderful elegance. 92-94/100.

A gentle purple colour, one of the few wines to be purple in tone. Closed on the nose, revealing a little bruised fruit. Gentle tannins on the palate give a dry core to the fruit at first, but suddenly explode within the fruit to grab attention and make sure they aren’t missed. Parma violets and a l...

Re: 2017s, B&F, Tue 25 June 2019

It was great to have the opportunity to try a range of wines from this vintage. It quickly became clear that this is a vintage which produced Ports with far more obvious tannins than we’ve seen in young Vintage Port for many years, backing fruit which is sweeter and fatter than 2016 or 2015. There i...

A crimson wine - the colour range of the 2017 Ports seems to range from an only red-black to a light crimson. A fat and fruity nose with lots of sour bramble fruit. Soft and velvety texture on the palate with perfumed purple fruit and a wonderful tannic core. Sweet, fragrant and with fruit a little ...

A wonderful nose on the wine, distinctly more complex than many of the other wines being shown at the tasting. A great grip on the palate, a grip which is firm and punchy. Lots of beautiful fruit on the palate yet with an impressive tannic backbone. The tannins show a lovely floral quality on the af...

Re: One quiz at a time

I know we essentially let this thread die, but a quiz question occurred to me today which I couldn't resist asking, especially for the mathematicians amongst us.

A simple question. What is the next number in this series, and why?

Any reason to print the 8 per A4?
Perhaps mistakenly I had envisaged the labelling of wrapped bottles — the organiser to pronounce.
I will label each bottle.

DG is Dia on this occasion, not David. Otherwise all looks to be correct.

Is anyone able to print? I won’t be going near a printer before Tuesday.

And your interpretation of the plan looks wonderful, but won’t work since Tony has at least half of the bottles.

Often the case. Some producers use t-stoppers as the samples really should be opened and consumed within a few weeks of bring filled.
