Re: Porto this weekend

Thanks, Alex. Shame that the construction is still ongoing - something to look forward to for future trips, though.

Drat! I’ll be over again in Aug/Sept, and possibly Nov too - will hopefully sort something out.

Porto this weekend

I’ll be in Porto this weekend, and I’m looking forward to going to a few of the new(ish) places I’ve not yet tried (incl. The Rebello hotel’s bar/ restaurant and the same over at The Lodge Hotel). I was wondering if any of you have been to some of the other new (i.e. post 2020) attractions in Porto,...

Re: Is 30yo VP darker than it used to be?

Is 30-year-old Vintage Port darker than it used to be? At yesterday’s Vesuvio tasting , the early 1990s VPs were dark. As best I can recall, 1963s were definitely paler than that in the early 1990s, and near the turn of the millennium 1970s were definitely paler than that. This observation is not s...

A splendid evening, indeed! Thanks Martin for organising, and to everyone who attended for a fun evening. I’ll post my full notes later this week/early next.

Re: Quinta do Vesuvio in February 2024 - 6th Feb

I haven't had V05 in many years, but my experience with it says that a somewhat shorter decant should work fine. It's a somewhat softer Port than the '03 or '07 but still very delicious. I would probably decant it 4-6 hours, but as I recall you guys tend to use shorter decants in London than we do ...

Re: Quinta do Vesuvio in February 2024 - 6th Feb

Is there a specific decant time/method to be used for V05 - this tasting will be the first time I’ve tried it so I’d appreciate any thoughts from others who may have already tried some.

I’m afraid I’m also busy in the last week of April, so please could I be put onto the reserves in case I can get my hearings schedule thinned down.

I’m a fan of Charles’s approach (somewhat selfishly, because this approach ought to assist yours truly with the “sleep” part of the sleeper train to a greater extent than Alex’s! :tpf: ).

Re: A Visit to Quinta do Noval

Fantastic write up, Alex - thank you for sharing! The last time in was at Quinta do Noval was in 2019, and they had quite a few terraces to repair due to land slips (I hope they’ve managed to do so in the meantime). A very special place indeed!
