Need for space forces this sale

Thanks Martin. What I want, what they’re worth and what I’ll likely receive are all very subjective answers - after all something is only worth what another person is willing to pay. I’m not sure this thread is the right platform for haggling, although I’d happily entertain any reasonable offers mad...

Re: Need for space forces this sale

Hello. Roughly where are you (in UK?) How much do you have of each wine? Single bottles? The above is the entire list. Where each bottle is quoted more than once, this indicates multiple bottles. It is a cut/paste from a spreadsheet & appreciate the way it is laid out may not be the best visual...

Need for space forces this sale

Port friends. I’ve been holding a number of VP’s for a few years, a lot purchased through reputed auction houses & VW&P. Having carefully stored these bottles on terracotta racks, behind a closed cupboard on a solid slate floor I now need to look at offloading most of the below in pursuit of...

Re: Old Port and Madeira wines

Welcome to the madhouse! I collect Port & very recently Whiskey, but interested in what you have to offer. There’s a wealth of experience within this forum and those that know better than me will be able to give you a clear direction and price indication.

Re: A market for fakes?

You are all such a wealth of knowledge & advice - it really is appreciated. The authenticity of the bottle wasn’t in question, given that it was a gift to me purchased through a very reputable supplier. The labelling didn’t look authentically reproduced and, as most things do, it made me curious...

I was hoping that there was a known standard, if you will, as to what label was p...

Re: A market for fakes?

I’m clearly confusing matters. The magnums have no question regarding provenance- I understand that they were bought by my friends father in 1980, and laid ever since. He has 5 bottles left from originally 6. He has owned bars and restaurants throughout his entire career & recently retired. I’d ...

Re: A market for fakes?

Is she sure there are magnums? I’ve never seen the embossed logo on a bottle for mags. They did it for most of the 750ml bottles. I’d guess the label may be a reproduction applied after original came off. There are some things missing on it that should be there. Not totally uncommon. And the Selo a...

Re: A market for fakes?

PhilW. Thank you for the link & most interestingly the label database I found too. Clearly the stock G77 differs immensely from that which I have posted.

Re: A market for fakes?

At the risk of sounding like I’m gushing, thank you all very much for such informed responses. I always try and approach my gut instinct with a balanced view, so as not to overreact if you will. I’ve attached a couple of hdr photos, which I am hoping will show where my curiosity started. Unfortunate...

Re: A market for fakes?

Thanks for the reply - as always your comments are helpful. I’m not suggesting that this item is counterfeit, but it did lead me to wonder how often fakes infiltrate the market. I caught the end of an article on the tv last week where counterfeit vintage whisky was being investigated - and which app...

A close friend of mine contacted me this evening to enquire about a few magnums of 77 Graham’s lurking in her fathers cupboards. After a little knowledge imparted she sent me some photos and I have to s...

Porto visit scheduled for 12th October

Finally I’m able to visit Porto - together with my wife and our 8 week old boy we will be staying for 2 weeks from the 12th. I’m hoping to get some advice on how to spend at least some of our time whilst there. From what I have read, purchasing port is more expensive over there, and whilst I’ve alwa...

Re: First visit to Porto

Imagine my delight reading this thread knowing that I’m visiting Porto for 2 weeks from the 11th October! I wondered though if anyone could throw some light on purchasing port whilst visiting. I’m in a good position in that I’ll have my own car with me, and the time to take in the sights and explore...

As 1975 is the year that I was born, I’ll happily take these off your hands, if nothing but for sentimental reasons! Please PM me if you still have these available to sell.

Re: Just saying hello...

My apologies to all - ive been so incredibly busy with both work and life that I’ve hardly had a time to breathe since the Christmas run up. I’m visiting London on the 28th April for the Vintage Wine Festival @ Billingsgate, but was thinking about travelling up on the 27th if anything is going on? O...

Re: Just saying hello...

Thanks ever so much for the reply Alex. I’m really interested in putting my hand up for the tasting sessions in London. Unfortunately though, due to working commitments, I’d need to plan at least 6 weeks in advance to ensure I could arrange the time off. I’d be looking to stay overnight in London to...

Just saying hello...

Evening all. Just thought I’d drop a brief hello, having been orientated to this site through both my love of Port & my local supplier - Vintage Wine & Port. As a relatively young 40 something, I’ve grown to both appreciate and respect Vintage Port; and with a mere 20 odd bottles gracefully ...
