Re: Which LBVs are worth cellaring?
I should also clarify that Warre make both styles. The one with minimal intervention is labelled as "bottle matured" and is usually bottled 4 years after the vintage and released after a further 2-6 years of bottle age. I think I recall seeing the 2003 vintage in Waitrose recently. In 8 y...

Re: Best bargain purchase at auction
10 bottles of 2000 Fonseca vintage port @ €175 (£148) I asked twice if he was serious. Guess he thought it was the LBV... That is a ridiculously good price. It is always good to share these stories with people who care about such things. And a little bit of envy is good for us all. Sorry guys...

Re: Which LBVs are worth cellaring?
Oke, thank you, I will try to find some unfiltered LBV's like Warre, Noval, Crasto and Smith-Woodhouse both from 2011 and 2008 or 2009 f.i.
Time will tell..

Re: WJ Graham Vintage Port 1970
First of all I want to say that I like you being very honest about the storage! Second I would advise you to open one bottle and see for yourself (or a member of your family, a friend, colleague, neighbor, or whoever) how the wine is drinking. After that you can decide what to do. After all, you mus...

Re: Which LBVs are worth cellaring?
Having red this threat I was wondering wether the 2011 (unfiltered) LBV's are better options for cellaring than for example the 2010 or 2009 LBV's, as 2011 is a classic year for VP. Is this good thinking? I had some LBV's from Warre 1992 and Smith-Woodhouse 1995 which I both enjoyed very much, but a...

Re: Another question about buying port in the U.K.
I've always found that a major advantage of keeping Duty separate from the price, is that it's immediately clear how much you pay on duty. There is duty on alcohol in the Netherlands too, but it is usually paid by the importers who then integrate it in their wholesale price to retailers. They apply...

Re: Buying port in the U.K.
Why have a few ‘groups’ on TPF, such as London tasters and New York tasters . If wanted I’d be happy to create a group, perhaps called ‘Dutch Port collectors’. If one of you is transporting Port from the UK to the Netherlands, that group could be messaged suggesting a larger single delivery, which ...

Re: Buying port in the U.K.
And then there are the supermarkets. With good fortune and good timing you can pick up some astonishing deals. The post I made recently about my local branch of Sainsbury clearing their shelves of 1998 and 1999 vintage port @ £9 per bottle is an example of this. You can't be serious about this........

Re: Another question about buying port in the U.K.
Thank you gentlemen, It's very clear to me. As I do have the luxury of having a large cellar underneath my house, buying in bond won't be necessary. I would like to buy the bottles and store them into my own cellar. I'm having a short break, so I'll be going to explore the internet the next few week...

Re: Another question about buying port in the U.K.
Thank you very very much, this makes perfectly sense! I even didn't had to look on a translation site to understand all of it! 88) Here in the NL I would have been paying 121 euro, so I have to add a little more on the U.K. prices when I look for it. But than again the U.K. prices are way better tha...

Re: What is the best 1991?
So far I've only had a case (6-pack) of Niepoort 1991 and a case (6-pack) of Noval 1991 and just one bottle of Taylor's Vargellas 1991. The Noval was totally disappointing, not one bottle did shine. The Niepoort showed bottle variation, I had some that drunk well, but also some that didn't show well...

Another question about buying port in the U.K.
In the Netherlands when we buy a bottle of wine we pay 21% tax. That's it, no more, no less. In the U.K. you use another system I believe. Could somebody please explain to me in very simple words the meaning or difference between VAT, sales tax, in bond and duty paid? F.i. when I as a costumer would...

Re: Buying port in the U.K.
Thank you for your quick reply LGT. My husband has a colleague who lives in the U.K. near London, so I've asked him if I could have the port send to him. We could collect the bottles after some time, spending some days in beautiful London, so the shipping is no problem. I do use wine searcher, but s...

Buying port in the U.K.
I've been drinking, enjoying and collecting port (mostly vintage port) for about 15 years now. The 2000 vintage was the first generaly declared year I bought directly on release. As a novice to port I didn't realise I also should have been buying the 1994 and 1997 and even older ports at the time as...

Re: Hello from the Netherlands
Thank you for your warm welcome. Indeed I also have been reading a lot (and have contributed some) on the FTLP forum, both portforums are very friendly and have learned me a lot. The main reason I've registred now on this forum is because I think this forum is used by Brits more than Americans and I...

Hello from the Netherlands
After reading quite a lot on this forum I thought it would be nice to register and maybe even contribute something once and awhile. My name is Monique Heinemans, I live in the very south of the Netherlands, work in healthcare, I'm in my fifties and I do have a small spot for Vintage Port. Unfortunat...
