Re: Port for sale by retailer

I am sure most of you are aware, but just in case... the annual Christmas port offering from Aldi has hit the shelves this week. It is much the same as last year, with the following available whilst stocks last: 40YO Maynard's Aged mid-tawny port 750ml: £29.99 (Great value bottle but can anyone shed...

Re: (28 or 29) Nov 2017 - TBD

I hope I could make either of these dates (but would need to confirm nearer that I have Zac care)... and would be happy with any theme, including an early ‘69 mini horizontal if you fancy Phil. If it were to be Calem, I would need to adopt but otherwise happy to bring a bottle to share.

Ps. I take it Jdaw is sourcing Imperials of Sandeman 70 rather than the mag to make up for the balls up :-)

Re: Thu 30 Nov 2017, Sandemans and 1970s (for the Placemat Software’s 15th anniversary)

If we are going to attempt sticking to the date... I would suggest the option of Bar Douro and having Max join us with a bottle too. I have been there with Mike, and couple of times since and think it is a great space, really good food, and obviously understands Port lovers. That said, if the date m...

Re: 1981 Warre LBV

I used the one old Warre LBV (‘74 which was fabulous) at a previous tasting, so the oldest I could offer would be the 2003 [which was only last years offering]. From a very small amount of experience with these lovely ports, it would be a great tasting that I would love to go to, but would probably ...

2015 Ports by Richard Mayson in Decanter

For those interested, there is a write up on the 2015 ports by Richard Mayson in this month’s Decanter Magazine (December issue).

Re: Port for sale by retailer

Bargain Warre’s Otima 20YO If you like a tawny, check your local Lidl for a clearance special on Warre’s Otima 20YO (500ml). The shelf ticket will state £19.99 but at the till they come up on a clearance price of £7.99. I just relieved my local Lidl of 3 bottles for £23.97 giving a Mag worth of 20YO...

I don’t believe that is one of AHB’s two 100 pointers (at least of the two I know of), but maybe Alex will confirm/deny.

Re: Port for sale by retailer

In the last month, my local Waitrose has gone from having Sandeman 2011 LBV, to briefly stocking the 2012 LBV (bottled 2016) and just a week later has already moved to the 2013 LBV (bottled 2017). I am not sure if that is because for most of that period it has been on sale at 25% off or just over £1...

Re: 1966 Gould Campbell

GC66 Stunning VP colour. Deep purple (amazing for it’s age), crystal clear. Prunes on the nose. Sweet blackberries on the palate. Lots of fruit, lots of heat. Amazing sweetness. This is a mature fruit bomb with great balance and a wonderful long finish. For me it shaded the ‘63 for WOTN.

In the absence of a proper question/question master...

For anyone to answer other than AHB (although he will need to assist with the answer).

How many ports has AHB awarded 100 points to, and what are they?

Re: What do you have most of?

My quantities are much lower than most members, but the port I [will] have most of will be 12 bottles of the Graham Malvedos 2015 Vintage if and when it is released, as I had a port bond from this year to celebrate my wedding. The port i actually have the most of in my procession is Sandeman 2000 VP.

Re: Hello from Porto, Portugal - new member

Welcome Júlio. The costs maybe high in Portugal, but the availability, particularly of the older Colheitas and Tawnies I am very jealous of.
If you are ever in London, make sure you get in touch to see if a tasting is possible.

all the best,

Simon
