Re: 1983 Graham

Speaking as someone who has drunk about 1% of the quantity of vintage port which has been drunk by some on here, I reckon it could still develop more. People more qualified to talk on the subject then myself reckon it could surpass the '85s in time, which gives more weight to my hunch. Sent from my ...

Re: 1983 Graham

D+48 Heat and tannins softened considerably, appears to have loosened its belt in the decanter. Mid palate full of luscious sweet red fruits, but also with a trace of cranberry-like tartness. Finishes sweeter, with a trace of licorice. Still a tad thin in its mouthfeel, but noticeably improved; need...

1983 Graham

Decanted 7 hours About 55% opaque, more red than purple. Slightly spirity, with cherries on the nose. A bit drier than other Graham ports I've sampled, but touching medium-sweet, with strawberries and slightly dusty cherries on the palate. Not massively thick in its mouth feel. A bit of heat on the ...

2012 Max Ferd. Richter Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Kabinett

Very light yellow, very slight trace of CO2, floral, white-peach dominated nose. Superbly juicy on the palate, with spices which I can't quite pin down, more peach, and enough acidity to give it good structure. Long cleansing finish.

Very good to my palate. Could be even better in a few years. 91

Re: 2004 Croft LBV

I'm up in Scotland, maybe Tesco branches here have been rather slower in clearing their stock of this than down south. A few weeks ago, I was in another branch and they seemed to be discontinuing a number of ports: they had some QdN 2007 LBV at just over 10 pounds (which were bought), and some Taylo...

2004 Croft LBV

Split from this Tasting Note by DRT to increase visibility of the offer. A large number of these have appeared in my local Tesco for about £4.80 a pop; think I'll try one tomorrow and clear the shelf on Saturday if they prove to have survived the inevitable supermarket mistreatment! Sent from my XT...

NV Graham Crusted 1998

Drank over one sitting, 26 hours after decant Fairly dark purple, with slight reddish tint on edge. Fruit on the nose, and a detectable - but not overpowering or revoltingly unpleasant - note of balsamic; touch of VA, perhaps? Lot of fruit on the palate, blackberry became more prominent as it progre...

This post was split off from a tasting note for a different bottle of the same Port by DRT. Author note: Expanded slightly, now that post has been separated, not entirely au fait with forum etiquette as of yet Drank this over a couple of days, around a week or so ago. 4.5 hour decant on first tasti...

Re: Start a vintage collection

Thanks, all. Good to know that it's mainly the late '70s/early '80s that are a bit of a lottery in terms of being affected by VA and whatnot. I can't think of a huge number of wines from those vintages that I'm massively keen to try, although the Warre '83 seems to get a pretty good press from many ...

Re: Start a vintage collection

I'd like to jump on this wagon by asking a not-entirely unrelated question: having only gone as far back as 1985 in my forays into vintage port, which vintages, and indeed, port houses, are especially prone to TCA and make any purchases of such a port to be too risky? I've heard a lot of '77s are qu...

Re: Best place to buy Port in Lisbon

Is it not generally the case that the Portuguese themselves tend to drink tawnies far more than any ruby-style port?

2000 Dow

I daresay opening a port of this age would leave me open to accusations of infanticide, but hey, it showed up pretty well regardless to my relatively inexperienced palate. Tasted: 8 hours after decant, 32 hours after decant. Deep purple, purple rim, almost entirely opaque. Nose slightly muted, but d...
