Re: RE: Re: Second wind for 1963s? Tuesday 10 April 2018

Can I ask to move this to the day prior to the BFT and change the subject on this. The day prior to the BFT would be a big ask of the man organising that event. This is an important theme. Whatever the conclusion, retests will be necessary. Anyway, please suggest some other dates on which the team ...

Re: RE: Re: Second wind for 1963s? Tuesday 10 April 2018

I have and could bring a Fonseca. Splendid, thank you. I agree that with a full complement of 14 people there's a case for adding for adding two or three additional shippers. Not 'pro 14' tier but I'd be willing to throw in Calem Foz, gratis, if it helps? Thank you: CáF would be very welcome. (Smal...

Re: Second wind for 1963s? Tuesday 10 April 2018

I can (easily) offer Dow, Mackenzie, Martinez or Sandeman. I could dig something else out of storage if necessary. Please, Mackenzie. Several adoptions are required. Would you be willing to allow adoption of a Martinez? Others: please say what you’ll allow to be adopted. Will bottles÷people at 1.0 ...

Ni70 (Dumpy), decanted 14:00. Glorious red, 45% opaque. Very complex: aniseed, sweetness, banana, and red fruits.

N70, decanted 15:30. Glorious red, 60% opaque. Smoke! El Rey del Mundo? Menthol cigarettes? The smoke — touched with leather — for me made this vey interesting. But the dryness, perhaps older than ideal, could fairly count against. Certainly drink up.

Re: 1970 Graham

G70 (decant time not recorded by me). Glorious red, 70% opaque. Nose of strawberry and menthol. My first glass was imperfect, but after pouring into a clean vessel it showed beautifully, big and sweet and full of blackberries. In the cold light of a Saturday morning its paucity of points (a ½ from ...

Cr70, decanted 08:00. Red-pink, 35% opaque. Nose gentle: sweetness, mint, alcohol. In other company, or alone, this would have been good Port. But the slight stewedness, and the heat, meant that more attention was given to its sisters.

T66, decanted 06:45. red-pink, 50% opaque. Nose a rich medley of red fruit, including cherry and plum. Palate big and sweet and soft and faultless. Later it showed a hint of banana—not a standard Port fruit.

My WOTN; overall second.

Re: 1966 Fonseca

F66 (decant time not recorded by me). Dark red, 80% opaque. Lordy, it’s 51⅓ years since the harvest, and look at that colour! Palate of plums, heat, and good sweetness. A touch hollow mid-palate, which for me had it behind the T66, but another excellent Port.

F63, decated 17:30. Red-red-pink, 40% opaque. Nose of cherry and aniseed. Palate, early to late, full of an Indian spice, with good sweetness and strawberry. Another very fine mature Port.

Re: 1960 Fonseca

F60 , decanted 15:30. Red-red-pink, 40% opaque. Nose of lovely mature port, with red cherries. Palate starts with white pepper spice, then heat. Too hot to be perfect, alas. At finish more of the white pepper, and red fruit — perhaps cherry. Very good mature Port, but below the top rank. This won’t...

Many would have been worthy winners, but rightly the ’66s, wrongly led by Fonseca, had it. We did Mr Wolfgang Starz proud.
